This week Tequila Don Julio hosted a delightful dinner party at the new Malmasion Restaurant, right at the waterfront in the Georgetown area of Washington, DC. We enjoyed an outstanding dinner presented by Chef Malcolm Mitchel, who incorporated Tequila Don Julio as an ingredient in the 3-course meal, while the Mixologist Andy Saymour prepared some spectacular drinks using Tequila DON JULIO as the main ingredient.

Tequila is famously made in the Mexican town of Tequila, in the State of Jalisco. The only alcoholic beverages that can be named “Tequila” are the ones made out of the Blue Agave (or, “Agave Azul”) grown in the states of Jalisco, Michoacán, Nayarit, Guanajuato, and Tamaulipas.

Tequila’s popularity is rapidly growing among connoisseurs from all over the world and is becoming a favorite mixer drink in parties and social events in the United States.

As a conservative cook, sometimes I always go for the traditional foods and drinks. And with drinks using Tequila, I usually settle for a “Margarita” or “Tequila Sunrise”, but after tasting these delicious co*cktails, I’m changing my mind.

Mely, As a very frequent traveler to Mexico on business, after a good meal we do shots of tequila followed by a shot of Sangrita, I try to bring home a bottle or two of the Sangrita when I return, but have often wondered if there is a recipe for home made Sangrita. Lime, Salt, Tequila, and a chase of Sangrita is a fine ending to a great Mexican dinner!

          Hola Rick,
To make the homemade version of the Sangrita mix sauce. Mix tomato sauce, and orange juice, with a pinch of cayenne pepper powder, ground Arbol pepper, salt & Pepper.

What an interesting post about Tequila. Rick Bayless had a show on where Tequila comes from and how it's made. Very interesting Mely and that short piece on the following Wednesday after Thanksgiving being called being National Tequila Day. That is awesome and great to know. You know Mely that I will be headed down to my local huge liquor store where they discount everything and getting a bottle of Resposado and making myself a drink and I will definitely toast to you. Thank you for this awesome post. Happy Holidays amiga!
