I have a high level of respect for players in NBA, NFL, MLB, NHL, etc. that refer to the leader of their team as “Coach” and not their first name. Lesson my Dad taught me...always talk “up” to any person you interact with! Mr., Dr., Coach, Pastor...it pays honor and respect!

“Trust the process!”“Trust the process” is a phrase I have heard many time over the course of my life and a phrase I have used as a business leader and coach over the course of my career. Nick Saban, the Hall of Fame football coach at the University of Alabama, has really made this phrase come to life as the leader of one of the most wildly successful organizations in any field. You will hear him say over and over again that, as a leader, his job is to get the collective buy-in of his players to be focused on the process rather than the outcome. I still have a hard time myself with this and question it at times. I think it is a very difficult concept for people to understand and certainly been hard for those I have coached and led to be OK with the process good or bad, win or lose, celebration or struggle. Especially, in this instant gratification world we live in. We want a quick fix, NOW. We want the win, without the work. We want to celebrate the success and skip the steps of adversity, struggle, and hardship. While, I too love a good bag of microwave popcorn, ordering from Amazon prime one-day delivery, and the thrill of winning. The good stuff in life, the memories and moments that will live on inside of you, occur along the journey. It is the process that makes you who you are and who you are becoming. Trust the process and the process will return 10x back to you! What areas of your life are you facing struggle and adversity? How could you re-examine those areas in your life and look for the positive things that are shaping you into a more trueversion of who you are becoming? Set realistic goals and expectations of yourself and celebrate those milestones along the journey and stay focused on the process.
