What Makes This Recipe Great
Y’all know I love a good dip, and I am back today with THE MOST delicious dessert dip ever. How I didn’t make it sooner, I don’t know. Introducing my newest favorite, Hot Chocolate Dip! Imagine your favorite cup of hot cocoa in dip form– complete with all the fixings: the whipped cream, crushed candy canes, marshmallows, and that delicious deep chocolate flavor.
Even better, I’ve provided two variations of this amazing dip for you– regular and dairy-free! Add it to your holiday spread with fresh bananas and strawberries, pretzels, chocolate chip cookies, graham crackers, and more!
This no-bake dessert dip is truly the perfect make-ahead dessert for a Christmas holiday party or gathering. It’s easy to transport, easy to serve, and absolutely delicious to eat!
Ingredient Notes
All you need are a few simple ingredients to make regular or dairy-free dip. See the printable recipe card below for more details, ingredient amounts, and nutritional information.
Regular Hot Chocolate Dip
- hot chocolate mix
- whipped topping: Cool whip works really well. You can find this in the freezer section of your local grocery store.
- marshmallow fluff
- mini marshmallows
- whipping cream
- crushed peppermint candies: Optional for garnish.
Dairy Free Version
- homemade dairy-free hot cocoa mix: I have a homemade hot cocoa recipe that is delicious and contains absolutely no dairy!
- dairy-free whipped topping: I used So Delicious.
- marshmallow fluff: I used TOONIE MOONIE Organic Vanilla Marshmallow Creme.
- mini marshmallows.
- dairy-free heavy cream: I used Silk.
Step-by-Step Instructions
- In a large bowl, add the hot chocolate mixture along with the heavy whipping cream. Mix with a hand mixer until fluffy, about a minute.
- Fold in the whipped topping along with the marshmallow fluff. Gently mix with a spatula until smooth.
- Add in marshmallows if desired and gently stir until combined.
- Transfer to a bowl and serve with graham crackers, animal crackers, vanilla wafers, or fruit. Store any leftovers in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 1 week.

Expert Tips
- Dairy-Free Version: The dairy-free option may be runnier than the regular. To remedy this, simply pop it in the freezer for 10-15 minutes before serving.
- Garnish: Top with mini marshmallow bits and crushed candy canes, but feel free to swap these out for mini chocolate chips, sprinkles, mini M&M’s, and more! You really can’t go wrong.
- Extracts: If you’re feeling adventurous, you can add a couple of drops of almond extract or peppermint extract to give the dip additional flavor. I recommend starting with just one or two drops before adding more.
- Stand Mixer: If you’d like to use a stand mixer, you’re welcome to. I found that a large mixing bowl and electric hand mixer worked perfectly.
Serving Tips
Serve with your favorite dippers: Pretzels, animal crackers, graham crackers, fresh fruit, Oreos, and more!
You can make this dip ahead of time, too. Store in an airtight container in the fridge until ready to serve (I’d say it’s best within 48 hours). To serve, transfer it to your favorite serving bowl with garnishes and accouterments, and enjoy!
Storage Tips
Store leftover dip in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.

Ingredients

- 7 oz marshmallow fluff
- ½ cup mini marshmallows
- ¾ cup whipping cream
