DIY Fire Cider:

An immune boosting elixir, digestive aid and flavorful addition to soups, salad dressings, sparkling water, teas & more. Fire cider can be used as a preventative measure against the common cold and flu. For slow digestion, add an acidic boost before a meal to improve your “digestive fire” mix 1 tablespoon of fire cider with 4 oz. water and drink before a meal. The flavors are earthy, spicy, sour with a touch of sweetness, fire cider can easily be incorporated into daily life!

Benefits:

Recipe:

2 small onions, chopped

1 head garlic, crushed

½ cup fresh horseradish root, grated

½ cup fresh ginger root, grated

½ cup fresh turmeric root, grated

2 oranges zest & juice

1 lemon zest & juice

1 tsp whole black peppercorns

Optional:

1 or 2 jalapeno or habanero peppers, tops cut off, chopped

Pinch cayenne

Honey- to taste

Directions:

1. Wash the fruits and roots

2. Grate the turmeric & horseradish

3. Rough chop the onions & garlic

4. Zest & juice the citrus fruits

5. Put all of the ingredients into a large 32 oz. mason jar then cover with apple cider vinegar

6. Cover the jar with a lid, store in a cool, dry place for one month.

7. Strain the infused vinegar out of the jar using a mesh strainer into a large bowl.

8. *If adding honey, stir in enough honey to taste until dissolved, then store fire cider in a mason jar at room temperature.
