Guy Fieri Finally Reveals What's In His Trademark Donkey Sauce (2024)

When someone mentions Guy Fieri, what's most likely to pop into your head? Frosted tips? Flame-embroidered bowling shirts? An apple-red convertible rolling across the highways of America during Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives?

Okay so it's probably all of the above. But perhaps most synonymous with the Fieri name is his trademark "Donkey Sauce" that's mentioned in every one of his cooking shows, makes spotlight appearances on the menus of his restaurants, and has somehow still remained an enigma to the world. That is, until now.

In a recent interview with Thrillist, the Food Network star revealed what's really in his signature sauce, which was no doubt dreamt up on a trip to Flavortown. And the short answer is that it's simply a mayo mixture.

"If we called it aioli, does that make it sexier?" he asked during the interview. "It's aioli."

Yup, that's right. Fieri's most famous ingredient is just your average blend of garlic, mayonnaise, mustard, Worcestershire, salt, and pepper.

"I called it Donkey Sauce because you have to make fun of it. It's a quintessential ingredient in so many aspects of food," he said. "Yet probably not the most beneficial except for flavor, probably the least beneficial, but it does have its place."

Then he later went on to explain that every food has a place — but you have to still have to be choosy about them. "The thing is picking when, where, how, what, and why you eat them ... so if you're gonna eat it, eat something really good. Don't waste your time on a frozen pizza."

Well damn. First we have to deal with the news that donkey sauce is just aioli and now you're hating on frozen pizza? Guy, you're breaking our junk-food loving, secret menu-obsessed hearts.
