How much and how often you should be drinking bone broth (2024)

With its many benefits, bone broth is a wonderful addition to your daily routine. But especially if you're new to sipping broth, it can be overwhelming to know where to begin, from how much to sip to how often.

At the end of the day, how much you sip and when you do it largely depends on your goals!

So let'sbreak it down!

How much bone broth should you be sipping?

We'll start with some general recommendations and then get into the nitty gritty of specific goals. Since bone broth has a wide range of benefits, from gut healing to better sleep, it's no wonder that it's getting a reputation for being a bonafide superfood! More and more, people are turning to bone broth as part of their daily routine - in the case of FOND, it's a healing, self care ritual that just so happens to taste really good.

For general health and wellness, we suggest starting with 5-7oz of broth and working your way up from there! If you drink broth regularly, you may find yourself working your way up to a whole jar at one time (that's what most of our team does!).

For best results we do suggest drinking bone broth every day, but if your budget or lifestyle doesn't allow that, aim for 3+ times a week.

If you have specific goals, like building muscle or improving gut health, you may want to drink more broth. Below are a few of the ways we see our customers utilizing FOND to support their health.

For weight gain + muscle mass:

If you find it difficult to eat enough protein during the day, drinking bone broth is a great way to add in extra, since it's high in protein. It contains a full complement of essential and non-essential amino acids (the building blocks of protein!).

If you're working to up your protein intake or build muscle, we suggest drinking 2-6 cups of bone broth in addition to yournormal meals. If you're trying to gain weight, you can add mix-ins like coconut milk, grass-fed butter, or coconut oil.

For gut health + inflammation:

If you're working to decrease chronic inflammation or improve your gut health, bone broth is the perfect option for you. Whether you're dealing with intestinal permeability (leaky gut), a fungal or bacterial overgrowth, or just general symptoms like bloating or acid reflux, the nutrients in bone broth can help heal and seal the gut. It contains gelatin (an amazing nutrient that heals and soothes the gut lining) as well as amino acids like glutamine, glycine, and proline.

If you're working to improve your gut health, we'd recommend drinking at least 3 cups of broth a day, ideally with the first being on an empty stomach in the morning.

For hair, skin + nails:

With its many benefits, collagen has gained increasing popularity in the past decade or so. The best news? Bone broth is a great natural source of collagen (especially beef bone broth!). Collagen is vital for the health of hair, skin, and nails, and it also supports heart health, liver function, and more. It's the perfect way to level up your beauty and overall health routine.

If your goal is to improve and maintain skin health and elasticity and improve hair and nail strength, get on the bone broth train! We'd suggestdrinking 2+ cups per day to see benefits.

For joint pain:

Whether your joint pain is the result of inflammation, food sensitivities, overuse, or a medical condition like an autoimmune disease, it can be frustrating to manage. Thankfully, the collagen and amino acids in bone broth are incredibly beneficial for joint aches and pains. While everyone is different, we've seen customers rave about joint pain disappearing with regular bone broth consumption.

To see benefits for joints and cartilage, we suggest drinking 2-4 cups of broth per day.

How often (and when!) should you sip on broth?

When it comes to drinking bone broth, the most important thing is to stay consistent! Whether you choose to drink it daily or 3-4x a week, maintaining that routine is key.

In an ideal world, we usually suggest drinking broth 2-3 times daily. Once first thing in the morning, again in the afternoon, and then lastly as a night cap. But at the end of the day - what works for your schedule is most important! Some of our team members drink 1 jar in the morning, others sip on broth throughout the day.

A few more tips to note:

  • If you are getting ready for any type of surgery, increasing bone broth consumption before and after surgery is a great way to support healing.
  • If you're also experiencing an increase in stress, you may find increasing your bone broth intake to be beneficial. Stress is super taxing on the digestive system & your gut needs extra support during these times.
  • Don't be discouraged if you either cannot afford to sip 3 times a day or you think it's unrealistic, simply start with once a day and stay consistent!

Still unsure? Here's what one customer had to say about drinking bone broth:

"I've been drinking 5oz of this broth every morning for 6 months now and I feel absolutely amazing. I previously had digestive issues and had a LINX surgery a little over a year ago. I haven't felt healthy or back to normal until introducing this in my life, so thank you🥂!"
