Availability of Test Results and Clinical Notes in MyChart (2024)

Test results in MyChart

In MyChart, our information portal for patients, you can see most of your test results as soon as they're complete. This includes laboratory, cardiology, microbiology and most radiology results.

In line with California law, some radiology, pathology and genetic test results won't be available in MyChart until five days after they're finalized. These time frames allow your care provider to review results before they're posted.

Because we release most results to you immediately, you may see them before your health care provider does. Please give us three business days to review results and let you know our thoughts. We look at every result. We will contact you about any result that concerns us.

Notification of test results

Automatic notifications about new test results are sent once a day between 8 and 9 a.m. Pacific time, Monday to Friday (excluding holidays). They'll be sent via email or text, depending on the preferences you've set up in MyChart.

If you'd rather receive notifications as soon as test results are available, you can update your preferences as follows:

  1. Log in to MyChart.
  2. Go to Your Menu, then Communication Preferences.
  3. Click on MyChart Health Notifications to expand the section.
  4. Under Test Result, uncheck the box that says "Once daily notification."

For help, call UCSF MyChart Customer Service at (415) 514-6000.

Clinical notes in MyChart

Most clinical notes are available in MyChart without your making a request. You'll find the notes under "Visits." This allows you to prepare for your next health care visit by reviewing your health care provider's recommendations and noting any questions you want to ask.

You can also get your clinical notes by completing a health information release form and mailing it to the address specified on the form. (Form for Spanish-speaking patients: Autorización de divulgación de información médica.)

Additional medical records

For clinic notes, test results or other records that aren't already available in MyChart – or if you don't use MyChart – find out how to request medical records from UCSF.
