Milk is far from one of the most popular drinks around. As kids, we would scrunch up our noses and would just gulp it down in front of our glaring hawk eyed mothers. Even as adults, we don’t look forward to drinking milk. However, the drink has numerous health benefits and is extremely nutritious. It’s one of the richest sources of protein, calcium and iron, as well as good and heart healthy fats, for vegetarians, and is one of the most commonly available dairy product there is.
Milk is essential for strong teeth and bones, especially the latter as it contain fortified Vitamin D, which is indispensable for maintaining bone health. Moreover, milk is also rich in potassium, which is also important for improved bone health and for preventing the risk of developing osteoporosis or bone decay. Some studies have also linked a deficiency of calcium with the development of colorectal cancer, which can be prevented if one consumes enough milk. But what does one do, if one simply doesn’t like the sight of milk? There are a lot of ways to make milk drinking more enjoyable. Besides the regular chocolate powder that you can add to the milk to enhance its flavour, these are some easy and fun ways to improve the taste of the drink and make it more palatable:
1. Flavoured Milk
There are a lot delicious flavours of milk available in the market, that you can choose from, including chocolate, strawberry, vanilla, butterscotch,caramel, rose, pan, etc. However, if you want to opt for the healthy ones, go for flavours like cardamom, cinnamonand nutmeg milk, mint flavoured milk, turmeric milk, etc. Make sure you pick brands that do not have a lot of added sugars in the milk. 2. Milkshakes
Milkshakes are the easiest and the most healthy way of making milk more palatable. The added fruits not just enhance the milk’s flavour, but also it’s nutrition profile, adding to it dietary fiber for better digestion and other essential vitamins and minerals, not present in the drink. Fruits are the most natural ways to detox the body and flush out harmful toxins from it. Avoidadding sugary fruit syrups and go for mashed raw and organic fruits instead, as the latter are more nutritious than the former.
3. Food Colouring
It’s a fun way of making your kids like milk. Hand them squeezy bottles of different food colours, and tell them to mix a few drops of the colouring into the milk. Make the activity seem like a cool science experiment, and they will happily partake in the fruits of their experiment. 4. Coloured Ice Cubes
The easiest way to draw your kid’s attention to the drink of milk is to quickly add some food colouring to ice cubes and add them them to flavoured or plain milk. Add several different kinds of coloured ice cubes to one glass and offer the prettily dressed up drink to your excited kid.
5. Flavoured Straws
Flavoured straws are readily available in the market. Each straw contains flavoured beads, which when dunked into the milk and stirred, add flavour to the milk instantly. 6. Dry Fruits and Nuts
Dry fruits are highly nutritious super foods, and instantly add flavour to the milk. Chop up some almonds, raisins, dates, walnuts, pistachios or cashews and sprinkle some onto your child’s milk. You can also add candied dry fruits to make the milk’s taste more enjoyable. Dry fruits are nutrient-dense and add good amounts of fiber, and vitamins and minerals to the milk.
7. Frozen Milk
Pour some milk or milkshake into a blender and put in some ice cubes and blend them together for an icy treat that your children will love. Add some mango pulp or any other fruit’s pulp on top of the plain frozen milk, to make the treat even more tasty. 8. Dressed Rims
Wet the rim of your kid’s empty milk glass and dress it with various kinds of treats like rainbow sprinkles, oreo crumbs, kitkat crumbs, chocolate shavings, etc. Then pour in some milk in the glass and serve it to your kid and observe with satisfaction as they reach out for the glass and gobble up the drink along with the treats on the rim.
