How to read NBA lines? ›

Betting the NBA Moneyline

When you bet the moneyline, you're betting on who will win the game straight up. The margin of victory does not matter. Reading moneyline odds is straightforward. Whichever team has a “+” number next to it is the underdog, while the team with a “-” next to it is the favorite.

Betting a NBA 2nd Half Money Line is the most simple way to bet at halftime. Whichever team scores the most points in the second half win this bet type.

Minus odds indicate a favorite, while plus odds indicate an underdog. For instance, if oddsmakers heavily favor the Phoenix Suns in a game against the Indiana Pacers, the Suns might have odds of -250. In this case, you would have to wager $250 on Phoenix to win $100.

In football and basketball, a 1.5-point spread often suggests that two teams are fairly evenly matched and that either has a solid chance to win the game outright.

In basketball, you might see a point spread of -4.5/+4.5, which means the favored team will need to win the game by five points or more for your bet to cover the spread. If you bet on the underdog, they simply need to win the game or lose the game by less than four points. If they lose by five, your bet won't cash.

Look at the integers next to the teams. Positive ones, next to the underdog, tell you how much you would rake in if you win with a bet of $100. Negative ones, next to the favorite, tell you how much you would need to be willing to risk to win $100.

Three-way odds allow you to bet on either team to win or a draw result. What does a 200 moneyline mean? If the moneyline is -200, it means the team is the favorite and you must wager $200 to win $100. If the moneyline is +200, it means the team is the underdog and you could win $200 if you bet $100.

4th Quarter - Money Line

Bet is on the team to win the 4th quarter outright. All bets are settled on the outright price. If the 4th quarter is interrupted and not completed within 24 hours, all unsettled markets will be void. Bet counts for points scored in the 4th quarter only.

Point Spread

An example of a spread is a spread at -2.5. When a team is favored, it's listed as -2.5. It's important to remember the favored team is always listed alongside the minus sign. As for the underdog, that team is always listed with a plus sign. In our example, the underdog would be +2.5.

What does a spread of +7 mean? ›

A +7 spread is very commonly seen in the NFL due to the scoring of a touchdown and a successful extra point. If the spread is set at +7, the underdog must either win the game outright or lose by fewer than seven points in order to cover. For the favorite to cover, they must win by more than seven points.

Negative numbers (in American money line odds) are reserved for the favorite on the betting line and indicate how much you need to stake to win $100. Conversely, positive numbers are attached to the underdog and refer to the amount you could win if you bet $100.

The Plus/Minus stat is a calculation of your team's net points while a player is on court. For example, if a player was on court the whole game and your team won 50-48, their Plus/Minus would be +2 for the game. Plus/Minus can tell you which lineups are working well and when you might want to switch up some rotations.
